Dear All

Spring has sprung and our gardens are beginning to wake up so have a great spring/summer/etc!

To further entertain can I remind you of the next Society events which are:


  CENTENARY EVENT 5th APRIL AT EAST HORSLEY VILLAGE HALL
As you are aware, we celebrate our Centenary on 5th April associated with our Spring Show. Tickets are scarce so if you can’t now make it, please let Heather Mason know at h.mason462@btinternet.com . If you haven’t yet booked or would like tickets for friends and family also, please let her know.
If you require a gluten free tea please let Barbara Firth know at barbarafirth@aol.com
The event is being subsidised from the Society’s funds, so it is good value for money!

For those of you attending, the timing is:-
10.30 – 11.30    Show entries staged
1.30 – 2.30        Doors open and show scoring via tokens
2.30 – 5.15 (approximately) - Bob Flowerdew talk/Q&A/Afternoon tea/Toast to Society/End
 
Guidelines for the Show part of the celebration are in this year’s schedule but basically, entries should be emailed to Bob Spackman by Thursday the evening of 3rd April please.
As this is an exceptional event, with 100 people attending and all that is involved with setting it up to make it a success, we are unable to accommodate late entries on this occasion. To register your entries, Bob's contact details are: Bob.spackman@gmail.com
 
Your entries must be staged between 10.30am & 11.30am. Here are details of the following classes:
You may make more than one entry in classes marked with * but with different varieties:

1.  Five stems of daffodils - any variety
2.  Three stems of cut blooms from any other bulb, tuber or rhizome * 
3. Bowl of floating hellebores
4. One Spring flowering shrub *
5. Any overwintered vegetable/vegetables
 
IN ORDER TO MAKE THE EVENT A PARTICULARLY  MEMORABLE ONE, 
WE WOULD APPRECIATE EVERYONE PARTICIPATING IN THE SHOW

 
  SEED PLANTING WORKSHOP
  Wednesday 9th April
This will be held in the Grace and Flavour Community Garden Potting shed (Ripley Lane, KT24 6JW) from 2pm until 3.30 pm. The aim is to plant seeds in preparation for the Plant Sale on 17th May. Everything is provided apart from hand tools.
A sign-up sheet will be available at the Centenary Event but you can also enter directly by contacting:

Please only sign up if you can commit to looking after what you plant and can grow them on in readiness for the sale.  
 
  BBC RADIO 4 GARDENERS' QUESTION TIME
  The BBC GQT team are coming to the Horsleys!


This event will be held on Tuesday 10th June at East Horsley Village Hall. Tickets will be available via the website from 7th April for HGS members, and from 9th April for the wider public. A maximum of 2 tickets per person is available on a first come first served basis. Cost is £4.50 per ticket. Doors open at 5.00pm with the show recording starting at 6pm. Guests will be invited to submit written gardening questions to the panel on the night.  Complimentary tea and coffee will be provided with wine and other soft drinks by donation.
