RULES FOR EXHIBITORS

All flowers, fruit and vegetables shown must have been grown from seed by or have been in the possession and cultivation of the Exhibitor for at least six weeks prior to the show.

No Exhibitor shall enter more than one exhibit in the same class, except where stated
-
Exhibitors using the same garden may enter the same class separately but must submit different varieties.

Where additional entries are permitted by *, different varieties are required. Multiple items within a single exhibit should comprise a single variety unless otherwise stated.

All Exhibits in Homecrafts and Children's classes must be the unaided work of the Exhibitor. A relative or friend may stage for, or assist, the Exhibitor.

Garnish may be used but will receive no points.

Exhibitors must provide their own plates, dishes and vases – unless stated otherwise. The Committee will not be responsible for these or any personal property.

Plant pots must not exceed 20cm maximum dimension.

Class entry cards will be available to Exhibitors from the Show Secretary at the time specified for staging the Show and must be placed ‘Name’ downwards by the Exhibitor against each exhibit.

Exhibits, excluding Homecrafts, will be judged according to current RHS Show Handbook and WI Rules (available from Amazon.co.uk). Items which are ‘Not according to Schedule’ (NAS) will not be marked. The Committee reserves the right to inspect gardens or allotments from which the produce has been entered for competition in order to be satisfied that the conditions governing competitive exhibits are fulfilled.

Competent judges will be appointed. Their decisions will be final. They will have power to give extra prizes or, if the exhibits are not deemed worthy, to withhold or reduce the prizes offered.

Any protest must be made in writing and delivered to the Show Secretary within one hour after the opening of the Show. The decision of the Protest Committee shall be final.

Entries shall be made by e-mail or using the printed forms enclosed with the Schedule and must be submitted by THE TIME SHOWN ON THE SHOW ENTRY FORMS.

Late entries may be refused at the discretion of the Show Secretary.

Exhibits for the Spring Show 2026 must be submitted and staged from 6.45pm- 7.15pm in WH Village hall.

The Cups for the Spring Show will be awarded after the Event. Exhibits must be taken away at the end of the evening.

Exhibits for the Summer Show must be delivered to the hall between 8:30am and 10:30am and staged on the day of the Show, after which time exhibitors will be excluded and judging will commence.

The Cups for the Summer Show will be presented at 4:00pm. Exhibits must be removed by 4:30pm.

In line with RHS policy, the Committee has decided to ban the use of floral foam at all shows. ‘FibreFloral TM’, a natural product based on volcanic basalt rock with a bio-based binder that is derived from rapidly renewable materials, is acceptable.
HINTS FOR EXHIBITORS
Fruit & Vegetables
1. Freshness and uniformity count more than size.
2. All fruits and vegetables with stalks should be shown with stalks attached.
3. Stalks should remain on soft fruit.
4. All fruit should be wiped, not polished to avoid damaging the bloom.
5. Use a soft cloth for washing vegetables as skins of some vegetables are easily damaged.
6. Naming of horticultural exhibits is an advantage and of interest to other exhibitors and those viewing the shows. Variety labels will be available from the Show Secretary on the morning of the show.
7. Do not hesitate to consult a Show or Main Committee member if in any doubt.

Flowers
1. If flowers in a class are of comparable quality, the larger matched exhibit will usually be considered better.
2. Single stem roses should include up to two side buds, but when three blooms are specified, side buds should be removed.
3. Roses with “confused centres” will be downgraded.
4. Guard petals on roses should be left on.
5. “Best Bloom” exhibits should be a single bloom and not include any additional bud.
Large sprays should be staged vertically and should not occupy excessive space.

Home Craft
1. Jars for jams, jellies and marmalade may be any size to suit the exhibit but must be sealed with either a wax disc and cellophane cover or a new twist top (no wax disc needed).
2. Recycled lids, if used, must be in excellent condition, and free from commercial marks.
3 All jars must be full and labelled showing contents and date made (day, month & year).
4. Jams and chutneys should not be more than twelve months old at date of display.
5. Lemon and other fruit curds are NOT true preserves and MUST have a wax disc and cellophane cover.
6. Preserves containing vinegar must be at least 2 months old and covered with a new vinegar proof twist top (no wax disc needed). New jars and twist tops can usually be obtained from: Lakeland Ltd., 7-11 Swan Lane, Guildford or via the internet.
7. Bread machines may be used unless stated otherwise but packet mixes are not allowed.
8. Pastry should be homemade for preference unless stated otherwise and is best baked in a tin.
9. Numbers and sizes specified should be respected. Non-conformance may result in rejection from class as ‘Not as Schedule’(NAS).
